China Lights at Boerner Botanical Gardens (Hales Corners)

Spectacular light festival at Boerner Botanical Gardens ($30–$100).

Step into a world of glowing artistry at this seasonal event featuring over 40 handcrafted lantern displays themed around "Legends Come Alive." The installations draw from ancient Chinese traditions, underwater scenes, and fantastical worlds, all illuminated throughout the gardens. It's an immersive evening experience that works well for families with children of all ages. Beyond the lanterns themselves, there's plenty to keep everyone engaged. Live performances showcase Asian folk art and acrobatics at multiple times during the evening (6:15 PM, 7:30 PM, and 8:45 PM). Kids can interact with illuminated displays and become part of the experience. A free audio tour available on your phone explains the stories and details behind each lantern installation. Two food courts on-site offer snacks, meals, beverages, and beer, so you can grab refreshments without leaving the grounds. Tickets are required to enter.
