Discover the Midwest’s Largest G-Scale Train
See the Midwest's largest G-scale model train display at Shady Lane Greenhouse—free admission.
Your family can step into an impressive world of miniature railroads at Shady Lane Greenhouse. The KFH Legacy Train is a sprawling display that spans 4,800 square feet and features over 2,000 feet of track with 16 different lines. You'll see an impressive variety of trains—passenger cars, freight trains, diesel engines, steam locomotives, and even mountain cogwheel trains—all meticulously arranged in an elaborate landscape. The display has grown tremendously since its start in 1998, when the owner was inspired by a magazine article about garden-scale railroads.
Plan to spend hours exploring the details of this ever-expanding setup. Comfortable seating areas with tables and chairs are available so you can relax while watching the trains in action. Trains operate on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., but the elaborate permanent display is worth visiting anytime during regular greenhouse hours—even when the trains aren't running. This attraction draws enthusiasts from all over the region, making it a special outing for families with any level of interest in model trains or miniature landscapes.
