Home Movie Day 2026
Share family films and celebrate home movies with the community at UWM Library.
Dust off those old family films and bring them to this celebration of home movies hosted by UWM Libraries! Whether you have 8mm reels, VHS tapes, Mini-DV cassettes, or digital files gathering in a drawer, this is the perfect opportunity to have them inspected and screened for an appreciative audience. Volunteers will be on hand throughout the afternoon to answer questions about preserving your media, recommend transfer services, and help you understand your options for protecting these memories for the future.
The event welcomes both filmmakers and viewers—bring your own films to share (with optional narration if you'd like), or simply drop in to watch what others have collected. While you're there, enjoy interactive games like Home Movie Day Bingo, enter raffles for prizes, and connect with other families who treasure their home archives. Since screenings run on a first-come, first-served basis as equipment becomes available, you can arrive anytime during the afternoon and stay as long as you'd like. Best of all, admission is completely free for everyone.
