Merit Badge Workshop: Geology

Scouts in grades 6–12 can earn their Geology merit badge at this three-hour workshop, covering all major requirements through hands-on learning. You'll explore rocks and minerals while discovering the museum's own connection to coal mining history. Scouts should bring their Blue Cards and review the merit badge workbook beforehand to get the most out of the session. Scout Leaders are welcome to join as chaperones, and we especially recommend having an adult present if your child receives wraparound services at school. Registration is $25 per Scout and $15 per chaperone, and the fee includes general museum admission. Please note that merit badges and patches aren't distributed at the workshop—Scouts earn credit toward their official badge once they complete any remaining requirements on their own. While prior experience isn't necessary, taking time to familiarize yourself with the badge requirements will help your Scout engage more fully with the activities and instruction.
