Scarecrow Lane

Bring your family to Retzer Nature Center for a fun fall tradition—you're invited to create your own scarecrow at home and display it along the scenic Blue Trail. This is a completely volunteer activity with no fees, and families of all kinds (including schools, scouts, churches, and community groups) are encouraged to participate. Your creative scarecrow will be on display for visitors to enjoy during their autumn walks through the nature center. If you'd rather skip the building part, you can simply visit Scarecrow Lane to take a self-guided walk and see all the imaginative displays others have created. Stroll the Blue Trail starting near the Children's Garden, enjoy the fall colors, and discover unique scarecrows along the way to the scenic pond. The trails feature woodchipped and mowed paths with some gentle slopes—not paved, and unlit after sunset, so plan accordingly. It's a great way to get kids outside, burn energy, and celebrate the season. No registration needed; just show up and explore.
