Scarecrow Lane

Scarecrow Lane at Retzer Nature Center offers families a fun way to celebrate fall. You can build a scarecrow at home and display it along the Blue Trail, or simply visit to enjoy a self-guided walk and see all the creative scarecrow displays others have created. The activity is completely free to participate in—whether you're building and installing a scarecrow or just coming to explore the trail and enjoy the autumn scenery. The walk takes you along the Blue Trail starting near the Children's Garden, winding past the Retzer pond and through fall foliage dotted with one-of-a-kind scarecrow creations. Families, schools, scouts, businesses, and individuals of all kinds are welcome to contribute their own scarecrow. If you'd like to build one, just make sure it's family-friendly, create it at home, and install it during the designated window. The trails feature woodchipped and mowed grass with some sloped terrain, so wear appropriate footwear. No registration is needed—just show up and enjoy!
