Bring your family to Retzer Nature Center this fall for a creative community tradition! Families, schools, and groups are invited to build a scarecrow at home and display it along the Blue Trail, where it will join dozens of other unique creations throughout the season. If you'd rather skip the building part, you can simply visit to enjoy a self-guided walk and admire all the imaginative scarecrow displays nestled among the autumn foliage. The walk starts near the Children's Garden and loops around to the scenic Retzer pond—a perfect way to enjoy fall colors and get the kids moving outdoors. The event runs daily from late September through October, sunrise to 10 p.m., and it's completely free. No registration needed; just show up! If you're interested in creating a scarecrow, you'll install it on the Blue Trail between mid-September and the season's end. Keep in mind the trails are woodchipped or mowed grass with some slopes, and they're not paved or lit after dark. Families of all kinds—including homeschoolers, scouts, and sports groups—participate, so you'll see a wonderful variety of creations throughout your visit.
