Scarecrow Lane

Head to Retzer Nature Center this fall for a creative community tradition! Families and groups are invited to build their own scarecrow at home and display it along the Blue Trail, where it will be part of a self-guided autumn walk from mid-September through the end of October. If you'd rather not build one, you can simply stroll the scenic trail to admire the many inventive scarecrow creations made by other families, schools, scouts, and community organizations. It's a wonderful way to enjoy the season's colors and get kids moving outdoors. There's no cost to participate or to visit—just bring your creativity and a sense of fun. The Blue Trail winds through the property near the Children's Garden and circles back to the pond, offering a nature-filled experience. Keep in mind that trails are unpaved with some gentle slopes, and they're not lit after dark. If you create a scarecrow, there are specific guidelines to follow (no violent or scary designs), and you'll install it during a designated window early in the season. Walk-ins are always welcome, and this is a fantastic, screen-free activity for families of all ages.
