Downtown Waukesha opens up for an evening of exploration, games, and family fun.
Waukesha Unlocked is a biennial community event that invites families to explore the city in a whole new way. Over the course of two days, more than 80 local businesses, organizations, churches, and government buildings open their doors for tours and behind-the-scenes experiences. You'll have the chance to visit places like the Andrew Andrew Frame House, manufacturing facilities, and city infrastructure sites that are normally closed to the public. Outdoor activities include historical walking tours and a public art tour, giving you plenty of ways to discover what makes Waukesha special.
Families with kids will find dedicated activities throughout the event. At City Hall, there's a Touch-A-Truck experience where children can explore city vehicles and equipment, plus craft activities. The Fire and Police Departments offer kid-friendly tours and demonstrations, First Student brings school buses, and other locations feature face painting, bounce houses, and performances. Most sites are free to visit, though a few require advance registration (including the Downtown Food Tour, which has a fee). Parking is plentiful, with free two-hour spots and affordable all-day options downtown. Stop by City Hall to pick up a Bingo card for a chance to win prizes as you explore.
